10.........."IN MEMORY " ......... by Stripes.

To Be Remembered.

Jim Taylor at the age of 54 was a strong looking man, medium weight, just slightly balding.

Taylor had been stationed a Subic Bay Naval Air Station when he met his wife of 17-years. He had retired in the Republic of Philippines and moved to Angeles City. He took pride in never having cheated on his wife in spite of all the chances.

Most of the time he would drink cola with the guys a Mike Winn's "Happy Medium," or Paul Dunn's, "Dunn Inn" as they told old war stories.

Taylor was a radio man in the Navy, but now that he was out he worked as a journalist for a Philippine weekly newspaper in Angeles as a columnist, and at night did another job as a recognized American Country DJ on an Angeles City station.

He never collected a pay check from either, doing the jobs because he liked to do them. Taylor was always bothered over the lack of formal training. So he enrolled in St. Mary's college for a course in Journalism.

This was where he first saw her as he walked along with a fellow American and student and retired Navy chief Gary Cooper.

She was much younger than Taylor, 20-years old. Her skin was copper-tone brown and smooth as royal silk. Her breast were oversized for a Filipina with the points of her tits pressing firm against her white almost transparent blouse. Her eyes seemed to sparkle and when she smiled her pure white teeth seemed to light up the room.

Cooper could see that his friend Taylor had more than a passing interest in her.

"Would you Jim?" Cooper asked.

"In a heartbeat, do you know her?"

"Sure do, "answered Cooper, "But what about your wife?"

"Right now I'm not worried," Taylor answered.

Cooper introduced Taylor to Marie. It was true love at first site for the two of them.

Taylor found himself in a 2-year affair with Marie. They met in various hotels and hide-away bars.

Then came the night of Aug. 21, 1983. Taylor was making love with Marie at the Philippine Hotel. He could feel the pressure building in his groin as he began to release the fluid of his manhood. But then there was something else, a pain that spread across his chest, running down his left arm.

"No! No! he cried," then his body slumped down and Marie felt his dead weight pushing down on her.

For a moment Marie didn't know what to do, one minute Taylor was alive and well, doing what they both liked, the next he lie there dead.

Marie called the front desk clerk, he in turn called the Angeles City Police.

As the Chief of police arrived he recognized Jim Taylor, knew him as a favorite Journalist on the good side of the Philippine government. The Chief also knew that he was married.

On searching his pockets the police Chief found one of Gary Coopers cards.

"Mr. Cooper, this is Chief ---------of the Angeles City Police department, I have a situation and think you ought to come right over here to the Philippine Hotel."

On arrival Cooper didn't have to be told, he knew when he saw Maria crying and saw the form of a body under the sheet.

"Is that Jim Taylor?" he asked.

"It sure is ,"said the Chief.

Between Marie and the Chief, Cooper digested the story.

"I'd like to protect his wife from the situation and his girl friend some adverse publicity. What do you propose Mr. Cooper?" asked the Chief

Cooper found himself thinking for the Chief and came up with an idea to carry the body out, the Chief said he knew an undertaker who could be trusted.

The next day there was a story about Jim Taylor the American Journalist who was found dead of a heart attack apparently on his way home.

Many of the military retirees attended the funeral, Taylor's wife and three children were there. Also there was a Filipina dressed in black who was crying softly in the back row.

Mrs. Taylor noticed her and asked Cooper who she was?

"It's hard to say," said Cooper, "Jim was liked and respected by so many people.

Three years later I went to Taylor's Grave site at the little Retiree graveyard at the entrance of Clark Air Base.

As I approached the grave I saw it was Maria, dressed in black and saying a prayer. She left some flowers on Taylor's grave, said good-bye and left.

A few minutes later Mrs. Taylor arrived with her three children. I greeted her and watched as she put flowers on the grave next to the ones Maria had left.

"You know," said Mrs. Taylor, "I've come here to visit Jim many times and every time I arrive I always see that somebody has left flowers here. It gives me a warm feeling to know that somebody loved and respected Jim that much. It's nice to know he is remembered.

I understand that Jim Taylor is still remembered by the two Filipina women in his life. Marie who visits in the morning and his wife who visits in the afternoon. To this day one has not met the other.
