ANGELES City - Basic Restaurant Hotel info

re SEX with HOOKERS

GUIDE only :

Use the information below as a broad guide only.

It will be helpful in getting you started.

I personally visit Philippines as much as possible , and then update the info below. Otherwise updates are based on proven reliable sources.

"Reviewed" (below) means info re-read and adjusted where necessary.

UPDATES : Reviewed October 2009

Angeles is possibly the Sin City of the Philippines. Certainly the go-go city, wall to wall. A 'meat inspectors' paradise. You will be flat out fulfilling your inspection duties here, there are just so many bodies to check out. I would say nothing less than fifty (possibly a hundred) go-go dance bars employing , on average , 20-60 girls in each, would be a good guess. Some bars employ in excess of a hundred girls. All the activity is located in Balibago. Angeles itself is 2km away. But we always refer to the action area as 'Angeles' . I doubt if there is a town of this size , anywhere in the world, that has so much temptation in so small an area. Nice and convenient, most of the places are walking distance from each other.

When to go ? : High Season is : November - April. During Christmas itself , a number of girls head home to re-unite with their families , but still plenty of girls there. Wet season is : May to October.

MAP : Check www.acmap.com, and or ,

TRANSPORT: Even though it's a dustbowl of a town , if your a Go-Go phile , I'm confident you will say Angeles is worth the effort . You can travel direct to Angeles from the International Airport by taxi , or go via an outlet in Ermita after you have sampled the pickings in Manila.

Also Cebu Pacific Air (CPA) fly in from Phil domestic airports (and even Bangkok). Enquire with them. But they are inclined to cancel international (eg Bangkok) flights etc. Do not normally accept credit card payments either. Crazy but true. The taxi fare from Clark airport to Angeles accommodation costs P300 , quite exhorbitant for Angeles and the short trip involved. Alternatively wait around for a Jeepney , but expect to pay more than the average Jeepney fare. I am guessing , with bags , you will have to pay around P15 , but driver might charge you more for your bags , if your bags take up needed seat space. Lot cheaper than taxi. For Fields Ave type of accommodation you have to get off Jeepney between SM Mall and Fields Ave. Ask driver for assistance , before jumping on. You then have a 5 min walk with your bags to Hotels. If me , I would avoid hassles and pay the P300 for a taxi.

On leaving Angeles and returning to the Airport , you will see opposite Jollibee , a queue of both Jeepneys and Taxis (hopefully : ) Jeepney marked 'DMIA' or 'Airport' , anyway , just ask. Alternative to all this ....

Direct ex Intl Airport - My preference would be : On exiting Aquino Intl Airport (Terminal 1) , head for taxi booth , purchase a taxi ticket for P2500 to Angeles (includes tolls). No hassles this way. Alternative , catch a regular taxi , with the possibility of hassles. Possibly the ones upstairs dropping off a passenger would be more honest with you than the ones hanging around downstairs waiting for unsuspecting 'tourist' types : ) Whether upstairs or arrivals leves , A taxi (no taxi ticket) should cost approx. Pesos 2000 including tolls , and you will be there within approximately 2hrs , depending on traffic conditions. Personally , knowing all the hassles/rip-offs than can occur with taxi drivers ex Manila Intl Airport terminals , I would always opt for the "taxi ticket" approach or the pick up service offered by the Angeles based 'theville' or Orchid Inn , see below.

If your taking the risk of catching a regular taxi (not via taxi ticket) : Outside the Terminal do not offer more than say P2000 (incl. tolls). Put your bags in the back seat with you. Don't sit in the front 'suicide' seat, as the Filipino's call it. You can still chat to the driver from the back seat which has more leg room etc. Note : A taxi from your accommodation in Ermita (Manila) to Angeles should be easier to get for around P1800 , at a guess.

Other taxi services , emanating from Angeles itself. IF you are booked into an Angeles Hotel , your hotel will pick you up at Manila Airport for P2500-2700. Alternatively : The ville (Maragarita Station) - Offer a pick up facility on www.theville.com (latest prices) Phone : 63-45-892 6547/63-45-322 0354 (045 if calling from within Phils). They will meet you at Manila International Airport and take you direct to Angeles with the minimum of hassles for P2500 (car) - P2800 (van) , incl. tolls (check via their website). You can request them to bring drinks with them , and sip away whilst you head for Go-Go paradise - Angeles. The trip takes about 1.5 to 2hrs , traffic permitting. What I have heard from others impresses me re The Ville service.

Orchid Inn - listed below as a very popular Hotel in Angeles. Perhaps book with them in lieu of the ville (above) , approx same charge as the ville (above) incl. tolls (check via their website). Normally they do not provide drinks en route. Check : www.orchid-inn.com (or maybe : orchid@datelnet.net) ..However , for this particular type of service , the ville has a slightly better reputation.

By Bus - I have heard of buses being held up and occupants relieved of their valuables. Most probably happens with the poorer buses for the masses , doubt if it happens to Tourist type buses , but you never know : ) Swagman Hotel in Mabini St has a "Fly the Bus" (FTB) service. Update : Nowadays they apparently have one old bus to be avoided and another new bus. Perhaps better to catch The Ville or Orchid Inn service , mentioned above. Fare P600. Traffic willing it takes about 1.5 to 2hrs to get to Angeles. If the bus does not drop you at your particular hotel (should , enquire before you purchase ticket) , it's a P50/70 tricycle taxi from their Swagman (FTB) Hotel to a place like Orchid Inn. Normally there are three buses a day leaving Swagman Manila for Angeles , currently times are : 11:30am ; 3:30pm. ; 8:30pm. Note : returning from Angeles to Manila , The Ville (Margarita Station) is a good spot to have a snack , beer and wait for Fly The Bus to pick you up.

For a taxi from the Manila Airport to any accom in Manila , buy a P500 taxi ticket , to the left just outside the terminal. Better than negotiating with 'unknowns' outside the terminal.

Within Angeles - you will be at the mercy of the busy little bees/mosquito's, the motorbike three wheeled taxis, called tricycles/trikes. They feed off tourists and some of them can be quite cheeky. As with regular taxi's , try and find out from some one else, before you approach a trike driver (or more likely they approach you) as to what the fare should be to your intended destination. Do not embark until the driver agrees with your price. A short trip should cost P50 (they ask for P100 : ) , on average other trips cost P70. Ignore any and all other 'offers' by trike drivers. It will be a rip off. No card games , no 'special places' etc etc. Ignore all offers. Just direct to your destination , no diversions/dalliances. Jeepneys are also available for some trips, but beware of pickpockets when riding this form of transport in Angeles, or anywhere else in the Philippines for that matter. Average fare P7 (short trips). Alternatively you can hire a motorbike in Fields Avenue on a daily basis for P5/600 (at time of print). Lots of accidents in Philippines , so take care , especially when under the influence. You will pay dearly if you have an accident , and YOU the foreigner will be in the wrong every time , regardless. Stay cool if involved in an accident , otherwise you might be beaten up : )

After this info , do not become paranoid about travelling around Angeles. If a Filipino is a thief , he is usually a cheeky/gentle thief compared to the ones we can come across in the Western world. Exceptions will always prevail of course ................ be alert , but not paranoid : )

ACCOMMODATION : in Angeles is ok. If you have no choices of your own , you might like to try one of the following the first night and if not to your satisfaction move around on your first morning and find something better. There is adequate accommodaion to choose from. Dont forget the basics for checking in to accommodation. Thailand notes and Manila Basics notes covered that adequately, so I wont repeat all that again here. The currency quoted on this website is the Filipino Pesos. For conversion to your local currency refer to : www.xe.com

balibago.com is a good source of information re accommodation in Angeles.

RESTAURANTS: There is no shortage of respectable Restaurants.

MAP : Check www.acmap.com (Map address supplied by Mike)

A small sample , not in any specific order :

1. Kokomo's , aka , Mo's. Still popular. Kokomo's and Margarita (below) have been there since Adam and Eve = doing something right : )

2. Margarita Station, a little away from the Go-Go's but still in Fields Ave and worth the walk. Nice food , and Freelancers within Margarita and passing by.

3. Clarkton Hotel apparently has a nice breakfast buffet.

4. Molly Malones , located in the Blue Nile Executive Hotel.

5. Hole in the Wall , for big steaks at a good price etc

Note : This info is now dated somewhat. Margarita Stn and Clarkton Hotel info however , is fresh. I do not eat here there and everywhere , stick with Margarita's.

Thanks to 'Mike' for updates re Restaurants.

CHANGING MONEY: Money Changer : Mongers say ... "Norma's best (reliable honest). On Teodoro , 1 block Sth of Fields". Cash U$100 notes are king , best rates. Only bring notes in good condition , no scribble , tears etc. Travellers Cheques are not so easy to change and attract a lower rate. Try Margarita Station (see Restaurants above) for TC's. Cash Advances on Credit Cards are charged a minimum 4% and possibly as much as 8 - 10 % surcharge. Current Intl exchange rates : www.xe.com ..... Myself personally , I arrive in Angeles with enough cash (pesos) for my stay , so have not personally tested out any of above info.

INTERNET CAFE: At the back of Maragarita Station (Cafe/Restaurant) , also at Ricks Cafe.

Now to the naughty side of things, Angeles Nightlife.
