Taxi drivers know it , about P75 ex Ermita area.Last time I was there (Oct 2005) they asked P400 entrance and told me Beer was P79. Watch these people , they are out to treat you like a sucker. They asked me to sign chit but I insisted on paying as I go. My chit should have been P479 but was closer to P600. Just imagine if you sit there all night , you'd get a shock with your chit.

On exiting , taxi driver told me they don't expect to see customer again , so they hit him for all he is worth : ) Lots of good looking girls , yes , but they have a controlled look about them. Her response was 'non co-operative'. Management dictates to them how they behave. Add to that , they have boyfriends or husbands waiting for them after (hence 2am/4am 'runners' from your hotel room).

For me , its a perv only place. Very difficult if not impossible to get any action in the expensive VIP Rooms. Even more difficult and a hell of a lot more money to bar fine them. They will not stay overnight , even if they promise to do so.

The problem is ... hundreds of guys go there to ogle over their bodies. Universal has a good reputation for bodies , so the girls think of themselves as 'gods gift to man' = unsatisfactory companionship. You can bet , most if not all of these girls have boyfriends/husbands , cause they are good looking. Their heart is not in the job , they are just doin' it for the money.If your particularly young and handsome , no doubt you could get em to loosen up and 'perform'. Otherwise its a perv spot , thats all. I can not see any reason to return there. Paying P600 for one beer and perv on chicks who are not interested in 'performing' , is not my idea of value : )

Here's d' current facts as I know them : Location of la Cafe - On the corner of MH Del Pilar and R. Salas Streets. If coming by taxi , come down A Mabini St (one way) turn left into R. Salas St and alight at the corner of MH Del Pilar and bingo ! you have La Cafe. If coming from airport , different route.

This seems to be the best value joint in Manila. Head straight for La Cafe in a taxi and get out at the front door , cause it's not safe to stroll around side streets of Ermita nowadays. Ignore any pimps close by. Pay-as-you-go Freelancers inside , some of whom are off duty Go-Go girls from nearby EDSA and other places (1/2am on for those girls).

Downstairs its 'Bottom Feeders' Bar , packed with gals and Western punters. Upstairs there is a band , dance floor and better looking girls. Pay as you go , padding of bills at La Cafe nowadays. Not all the time , but enough to be wary.

LA is broadly divided into two :

Downstairs .... Westerners crowded around a circular bar. Lots of girls , most average or below average with the odd looker. Open day and night.

Upstairs .... Evenings only. As you reach top of stairs to your left band and dance floor , to your right neutral territory , beyond that further right , floor drops down a level to decent tables , relatively nice long bar. This is the 'korean sector' on Friday and Saturday nights. Other nights its anyones territory as koreans are down in numbers. Mama-sans control most of the girls (see update below) , especially on F & Sat nights. UPDATE : October 2007 , reportedly , Mama-sans have been kicked out of La Cafe. This might lead to a drastic reduction in Korean numbers , who will now have to fend for themselves. Anyway , it places La on a more level playing field for the rest of us. Good move.

Mondays to Thursdays : You have choice of all the girls , except for the ones talking to mama-san or talking to koreans (see Update above). Friday and Saturday nights : Girls get fussy and prefer the higher paying koreans who can be the majority punters on these nights. Mama-sans more active (time to make money). See Update , above. Not sure about Sundays. Even so , on F & Sat if your youngish you can still score an attractive girl upstairs. If oldish , you might struggle (but not Mond - Thurs). On exiting La Cafe catch a taxi passing by that uses its meter. Avoid standby taxi's , especially those who refuse to use their meters. UPDATE : There is currently a scam outside La Cafe wherein Policeman stops you and your gal , take you to local Police Station and extract a bribe to get you out of a sticky situation. To avoid this , experienced punters give their gal P100 inside La Cafe , make it clear where they are staying , exit La Cafe separately and catch separate taxis to the same hotel. Thus avoiding the scamming policemen.

Do not expect 'models' at LA , but do expect lots of hungry girls and the odd upstairs cutie worthy of taking back to your hotel room. Watch your valuables. As some of you know , La Cafe was closed down for a while. Only huge bribes to Police , in the order or two million pesos by some accounts , fixed the problem and La re-opened. As from 1st July 2007 a new Mayor was elected , Lim. This is the same Mayor who closed down the entire Ermita sex scene years ago. Rumour had it that he was going to close it down again , which would include La. It's now May 2008 and no sign of a closure.

My take on this is ... La represents a huge cash cow for the Police and they would not want to see it closed down permanently. Hence , Lim will have difficulty in closing it down , especially with the Police coaching La on how to stay open. For example just recently Police encouraged La to get rid of the Pimps who were operating inside La. This La did (got rid of them). Add to that , the girls at La are freelancers , not in the employ of La , thus making it difficult for Lim. Even so , I predict religious zealot Lim will succeed in closing down La. All he has to do is refuse to renew their licence , when it comes up for renewal. This is how he closed down entire Ermita sex scene before (did not renew licences). When does La's licence come up for renewal ? Don't know , could be tomorrow : ) So , get to La and enjoy it while its there. Quezon City has a heap of Casa's , geared for the Filipino Clientele, so too Cubao ( but not safe) . Generally speaking the atmosphere is not so good at Filipino style nightspots. You get the feeling your encroaching. No harm in having a look, if your the curious type.

In addition the gal would expect a tip (on top of the P5000 or more she gets out of the Bar Fine fee) Worth it ? In my opinion , certainly not. Do a bit of spade work , be patient and you will find a good looker elsewhere for a fraction of the cost , possibly even free if your young and good looking. No choice in ladies, you are simply handed a number and sent to your room to await managements choice. The girls numbers rotate , are changed on an irregular basis. So , if you want the same one again on a future visit , you have to ask for her full 'trade' name. SABANG (Puerto Galera) :

NOTE : All info on Sabang is 'second hand'. I have not personally been to the place.This is a nice enough side trip from Manila. Nothing on the scale of Mla or Angeles, but worth a mention just the same. Sabang has lovely surrounding scenery, cute little alleyways and a small compact western orientated chick scene that should satisfy you for two or three days or more. Negative : lot of girls seem to be on Shabu (drugs). The following Transport/Accom information is a bit dated now , use as a GUIDE only. Better than nothing : )

However , the Nightlife info supplied by LMarines further on , is fresher and more up to date.

FIELD REPORTS : Better still , see Field Reports Manila for possible updates on Sabang/Puerto Gallera.

Transport - Catch a bus from Centrepoint Hotel , Mabini Street and pay P700 approx for a round trip which also includes the Catamaran (Si Kat is the most favoured Cat' , last one leaves at 6pm) at Batangas to Puerto Galera and back.

UPDATE : Apparently Centrepoint Hotel is now closed. Enquire at Swagman Hotel (see Manila Basics link/page) and see if they offer a similar service. If you miss the last ferry/cat .... consider Days Inn accom. at Batangas = P1300. Once at Puerto Galera, you'll need to ride a Banca (native boat) to Sabang for around P150/200. The other alternative is a crowded Jeepney for P10. They both take about the same time, 20-30 minutes. Avoid trikes, they are a pain/nuisance. Overall , it will take you about 8 hrs to get to Sabang from Manila.

Accommodation - During high season there are a lot of young European diving dongs (Scuba divers) at Sabang and so accommodation can be a little tight, but available, nevertheless. Sabang is famous for its 'brownouts' (blackouts in the west). So, before putting money down on the table ask whether or not your place has a generator and if they use it. Some smart arse places will say yes, they have a generator, which is true, but striving for more profits, they don't use it when the brownout arrives. If you need somewhere to kickstart your stay, here is a rough guide to budget style accommodation :

1. Seashore Lodge, P5/800. 2. Terrace Garden Resort P5/600, good but hard to find. Can't give you reliable directions, unfortunately. 3. Tropicano, around P1000 and up from memory, and good Restaurant.

Restaurants - Tropicano Restaurant just might be the best in town. Hearty breakfasts too. "Relax Thai " Restaurant, genuinely spicey and good. "Sabang Fast Food" is ok.

NIGHTLIFE

This is divided into two. First is Thomas' info which is most probably outdated now.Second is LMarines info which should be much fresher and up to date.

1. Thomas Report : Nightlife - well, there is not a great deal of it , but what is there seems to keep the guys occupied. Remember, if dealing with Freelancers, watch your valuables, especially overnight. Go-Go Bars: Prices are approx: Ladies Drink P100; Bar Fine (aka Departure Tax : ) P4/500 ; ST 500 LT 800/1000 . A far cry from Makati prices but the girls are not so pretty and lavishly packaged as in P. Burgos St. "Sunset" is the most popular and has the friendliest and prettiest girls. 2. "Sabang" is not so friendly, more of an Asian clientele and can be pushy re LD's , but nice gals. 3." Umbrella" is another one with pushy management. Management changes, places change, let's know how it was when you visited Sabang. Disco: "Philippine Village" is where Freelancers, mixed with some good girls, hang out. As usual the ladies of the night do not start fronting up until around midnight. P500/1000 for an all nighter. Other Freelance: at Sabang Fast Food you will find some 'hangabouts' who will gladly let you pay their food chit and then supply 'Desserts' for a modest fee. General Info on Sabang : Sabang, is the place you want to be if you're going to Puerto Galera, this being my third trip there. It's relatively small, with some go-go bars, mostly refered to as "Discos", and freelancers patrolling various other spots. If you've just come from AC, Pattaya, or any other sex wonderland , you may be a little disappointed in the selection of women. If not, what's there will more than suffice, for a while anyway. The bar fine at each of the 3 go-go bars is P400 - it's low season right now so the standard tip is P1000 for long time.

For the freelancers , there's of course no barfine, and the tip is the same. Following the 1 bar-1 girl rule, you could soon run out of bars to choose from, but this doesn't seem to be a problem here - the mamasans at each place were very clear on this and I experienced no problems from any of the girls as I was butterflying around , even going to the same bar on consecutive nights barfining different girls.

One word of caution - the vast majority of girls in Sabang are using shabu , which can make them a little unpredictable , but at the same time really loosens many of them up , resulting in a more wild fuck in many cases. I'm told that many of them will become possessive of you , marking you as their "territory" (source of income) and will bang on your door late at night when you've got some other girl. As well, at least some (or perhaps many) will not hesitate to steal from you, especially if the haul is big enough , and then basically hide from you until you are gone. Sabang is worth a try in my book. The places to go looking for sex :

SABANG DISCO : Approximately 40 dancers, with the best quality in town at the moment, actually each time I've been to Sabang. Barfine P400 - tip P1000. Even if you've just been in AC, there are several sweet young things around 20 years old, with great faces and bodies, most are in the 8.5 in the good looks dept. Some people don't like to go here too often, due to lady drink pressure - not from the girls but from the two mamasans , and one papasan. He's been there for at least 5 years, and probably makes a decent income from drinks alone. I've never heard a good word about him - he's generally a pain in the ass , always wanting a drink(s). It's not as though it's a lot of money, but it does wear thin quickly - as soon as you buy one of them a drink, the other two will be over quickly. However, I've almost always been able to find just what I'm looking for here, or close to it. Some freelancers are found here from time to time. It all depends on how "business" is going.

SUNSET DISCO: Around 25 dancers, on average not of high quality. Barfine P400 - tip P1000. The girls here are very friendly and their looks are in the 7.5 point system in terms of looks. I did find two gems here, though. The first was actually quite sweet, NO fat, great ass, and quite a decent lay her name was Prissy. The second was amazing -- not only did she have the best body I found, she was by far the best fuck. After I bargained her, we went to Scabbing Disco to pick up her friend for a menage a trois - and they didn't disappoint at all. They were very into each other and the menage a trois, kissing each other, licking twat and ass, fingering, etc. Her friend went home when we were finished and I had seconds on the first girl - she was a first-rate lay and she enjoy doing anal, by the way her name was Imee. Freelancers frequent this place at odd hours of the night.

VILLAGE DISCO: About 30-40 dancers. Barfine P400 - tip P1000. On average, the quality is less than Sabang Disco, but better than Sunset Disco. Not a lot of lady drink pressure. One nice feature of this place is that a few times each evening, they have ALL the dancers parade around the stage in a train for a while. I didn't bargainee any girls from here this time. Its advisable to buy a Ladies Drink, 125 pesos, to find out the pros and cons. Is she Cherry? Is she on mensa? Does she give blowjobs? Does she go without a condom? Etc. Etc.

UMBRELLA DISCO: I found the streets of Scabbing a bit too claustrophobic, due to the narrow alley that it's is main street along the beach. This establishment has a pushy management. They hassle you for LDC's all the time. Never throw your cup away, go to the bathroom and put some water in it and make it look like you have a fresh drink. On a good night there is 30 to 35 girls and most are in the 6 to 7.5 range. The prices here are much lower than in Manila and if you go early and select carefully you will find a cute nice girl. The bargainee is P400 and the girls expect P1000 for the allnighter. I found here a very cute 22 year old girl name Lilybeth with a wonderful soft body and perky tits. She was good in bed and gave me a great BJ. The good thing about Sabang is that there is few bars for you to hop around so "Butterflying" is not a big concern here. The girls are very friendly and fun to be with.

FREELANCERS: In Sabang, the freelancers are referred to as "HUNTING GIRLS". The main spot to pick them up is at any of the "Discos". You can also find them at many of the outdoor bars, and just walking around, day and night. They are always on the prowl looking for a customer. Tip P1000 for the LT. As with the go-go girls, most are into using shabu, and many of the freelancers are not working in the go-go's due to what has become an excessive habit, so be careful. I'm told that many of them will become possessive of you, marking you as their "TERRITORY" (source of income) and will bang on your door late at night when you've got some other girl in the comfort of your room. These girls almost certainly don't get check-ups as often as the dancers do, or at all. Though I don't put that much faith in the check-ups these girls get. One girl said the dancers from all the bars were getting their check-ups the following morning - a swab, and that it cost P50 - what can they be checking for 50 pesos???? You also hear stories that the girls get their wages deducted if they don't do the check-ups. Doesn't sound like ideal protection to me. At any rate, if you're going to screw a freelancer, WRAP YOUR PECKER! In my mind, you should with the dancers as well, but especially with the freelancers.

PS: To some of the guys out there please don't inflate the prices you'll ruin it for the rest of us. I'm glad there is no Japaoke place around Sabang. They tend to stay in the more populated areas.
