1. N. E. P is where you find young lithe bodies moving around on stage in skimpy bikinis, or semi nude. Full nudity has been restricted since the governments crack down beginning mid 2001 and still continuing to this day. The atmosphere at NEP is commercial but less so than Patpong , where they can be very pushy (Patpong). Soi Cowboy (Notes further on) is a little more relaxed and laid back compared to NEP and Patpong. Note - It never gets that relaxed and laid back that your not paying : )

In recent times, when it comes to drinks , NEP has become a little more expensive than Soi Cowboy and even Patpong. However , unless your on an extremely tight budget , the differences in prices will not be a major problem for you.

You might like sitting out the front of the entrance to NEP , early in the night , say 6 - 8pm eg Big Dogs Bar , watching the dancers arrive in regular dress. If they look good in full dress take a note of their face or better still ask them where they work and what’s their name, then check them out on the dance floor (in the near nothing) and if to your liking , move in for the kill. Big Dog Bar at the entrance to NEP is ideal for this kind of observation , and many other observations. If your a people watcher , you'll enjoy the view. Sit right on the railing for full 'control tower' status (best view).

NEP/Nana Entertainment Plaza -

Location : Soi.4. (see Map below) . A few short metres ( 1 min ) from the corner of Soi.4 and Sukhumvit Road. There is a huge sign over the entrance which says "Nana Entertainment Plaza" in both English and Thai.

Floor numbers are as per UK , Viz Ground Floor UK is 1st Floor if your American and so on.

Two stories high (U.K. , ie Ground Floor and then two more floors) and in a horseshoe shape. Handy to most of the recommended Hotels and other popular spots including Angels Disco across the road and Bier Garten , not far away. Beer Bars (not Go-Go) start around 2/3pm but you should not go to the actual GoGo's before 8pm. Possibly the most popular go go scene in Bangkok even though it costs a little more than Soi Cowboy, described further on down below. This is where it can be full on , groping, blow jobs, lesbian sex shows, beautiful nude dancers and katoeys, all in the one building. Note : 'can be'. The govts clean up drive continues unabated. Expect to only see bikini girls shuffling their feet (meat inspection) , and then if you see more ... bonus : )

Beer Bars :

They are all located on the Ground Floor (1st Floor if your American). As you enter NEP you will find the elevated Big Dogs Bar on the left hand side. Not a bad 'observation post' , watching the comings and goings. There is also another Beer Bar on the right hand side as you enter. Further on filling up the centre of the horseshoe are more Beer Bars and lots of girls and customers. A lively atmosphere.

Surrounding the ground floor Beer Bars are about nine Go-Go’s in all.

Sorry, didnt stop and have a beer at any of the Beer Bars and ask questions. I would expect YD to be around Baht 80/90 Baht and BF 3/400 and ST 750/1000 and LT 1500. UPDATE : I'd reckon these prices are now out of date , and YD for example would be at a guess Bt90 (?) Big Dogs 95Bt.

Note - It is hard to quote accurate prices , especially with drinks , as management changes prices often. Take the following as a rough guide only :

YD (Your Drink) between Baht110/125 and Ladies Drinks most prob in the vicinity of Bt100/110 , but possibly more nowadays. Your Drink will usually be an ok price , but before ordering Ladies Drink ask "how much" beforehand. Best rule .. ask "how much" before each and every transaction : )

Some have happy hour prices to 8/9pm. Same gals on display and better choice if your in the Bare Fine mood , plus you save some 'peanuts' : )

BF/Bar Fine : Baht 500/600. Asking - ST/Short Time : Baht 2000/2500 (more likely ask for the latter , especially if one of the top girls). LT/Long Time : Baht 3/4000. Bargain politely but firmly and you should be able to get them at the lower prices , especially if your on the right side of 40yrs : ) Note : if you Bar Fine LT early in the night , a top girl might try and do a runner , returning to the same Go-Go in the hopes of more BF's. That is ST you. So , as usual , make the 'terms of engagement' clear , right from the outset before placing BF money on the bar , preferably in front of the Mama-san/Manager. Even that wont save you sometimes : )

First & 2nd Floors (U.K.) : where rents are cheaper than the ground floor , you will hopefully find prices more modest than on the Ground Floor. Exceptions always exist , eg , Angelwitch (1st Flr UK).

COMMENTS ON THE GO-GO's :

Disclaimer ... I do not visit these places anymore , so use the following info updated via others , as a guide only. Just enter NEP building walk around , make sure you visit Rainbow and Angels Witch GoGo's , whatever you do. Angel Witch and maybe Rainbow 4 (upstairs) your first priority , I'd say.

Ground Floor UK [First Floor if your American] - The Go-Go's are the horse shoe shape itself. The Beer Bars fill in the horse shoe on the ground floor only.

NOTE : It is a 'sea of change' in the sex industry , whether talking about GoGo's or whatever. Names below might have changed , management changed etc etc. Take the following as a guide only.

First on your right as you enter , is the highly regarded Rainbow .1. then Playskool , Hollywood Rock , and finally Rainbow.2. ........... "Obsession" is another one in NEP which employs katoeys exclusively. At the end of the horseshoe, to your left. Note - possibility that Obsession has now closed and the katoeys have transferred to Lollipop , 50% are apparently k's.

Playskool , half way down , is a little bit smallish but with about 100 attractive girls on tap , it is popular and busy. The best girls are bar fined early, so make sure you are there by 10pm at the latest.

Rainbow.2. located in the far right hand corner, as you enter the building, is popular. Heaps of girls, including good lookers. Anything from twelve to twenty five 'dancing' (shuffling feet) at any one time on the stage. Sound system good, smoke free, air con good. Only problem - ST mentality & a Japanese clientele that increases prices. Also they might employ some katoeys there nowadays too. Note : the attractive Waitresses can be bar fined. Rainbow has more GoGo's upstairs (hard keeping track : ) Possibly four Rainbow GoGo's in all (NEP) , but make sure your not looking at a Katoey : )

Entering the left side of the horseshoe (from Soi.4 end) you will firstly come across Lollipop which is possibly inhabited with 50% Lady Boys these days , then Red Lips, Pretty Lady (formerly Bottoms Up) and finally Voodoo in the left hand corner , possibly with a small number of katoeys nowadays. Names change etc with the wind.

First Floor (UK) [2nd Flr if your American] - No Beer Bars in the centre of the horseshoe, of course. Space only/open to the heavens above. 1st Floor (UK) is a lot quieter than the Ground Floor. About 15 Go-Gos and x 1 Restaurant/Pool/Meeting Place in all.

Stay on the alert for Katoeys/Transvestites who are in the employ of some Go-Go’s. eg Casanova’s Bar on this lst Floor (UK). See at end of these Go-Go notes for info on how to identify katoeys. Cascade , wherever it is , is also a katoey bar.

Coming from Soi.4. end , to your right and up the steps/escalator :

Straight ahead as you reach the top of the escalator and up the stairs is Mandarin. Reasonably popular.

As you walk along the right hand side of the 'shoe' : Silver Dragon ; then Fantasia ; Spiders Web ; Rosemary's and then finally G. Spot.

Fantasia - is the first pop and well known Go Go you come across (on right side) ; next Spiders Web (good for BJ's).

Rosemarys Go-Go - is famous for its Public BJ’s and groping. BJ Bt 500.

G. Spot Go-Go - in the far right hand corner is a big place with three stages. Feeling the effects of the authorities crackdowns , and thus not as well catered for as it has been in the past. It's fortunes might have changed for the better by the time you visit.

Left side -

Continuing on past G. Spot and walking along the bottom of the horseshoe you will find Casanova's in the corner. Katoey country. Only he/she's in residence , incl. post operatives minus a penis plus boobs : ) Enthusiastic/aggressive re Ladies Drinks etc.

Continuing the swing, after you pass Casanova's , and heading in the direction of Soi.4 you will come across:

DC -10 & Sexy Nights (not sure if still there nowadays).

Then "Angel Witch" : A well known place that varies as to quality of girls and 'boldness' of shows (authorities permitting). Can be pushy and more expensive re Ladies Drinks (Bt125 ?) and ST at 1500 , LT at 2/3000. A talked about place that possibly you should visit once at least ? UPDATE : My personal experience = not pushy , best floor show at GoGo I've ever seen (not saying a lot : ). Definitely worth at least a one beer visit.

Followed by : Hollywood Stars ; Hogs Breath ; Three Roses ; Rainbow.3. (which is a new Rainbow addition to NEP. Not so well stocked as 1 & 2 down on the Ground Floor). There is a fourth Rainbow somewhere nowadays too (Rainbow.4), and I think I saw it on this floor ? (Rainbow 1 & 2 on ground floor more popular) ; Titty Twister (not the prettiest of ladies but cheaper Beer). Some of these businesses might have changed their name or gone out of biz by time you get there. Use names as a guide only. Regardless of the name , they all do much the same thing : )

Note : Hollywood this , Hollywood that. Name changes , as does the wind : )

No beer bars . Some big Go-Go Bars , eg Hollywood Carousel ; Hollywood Two ; Carnival (and they all have ‘shows’ , that's if authorities are not clamping down at the time of your visit). If 'shows' still 'muted' , then expect smaller crowds in attendance.

Right side :

NOTE : There could be changes by the time you arrive :

Carnival Go-Go - Coming from Soi.4. end your first Go-Go on the right is "Carnival" (big area) .

Taboo ST Hotel - is next on your right, near the corner. Baht 300 standard room ; Baht 350 Deluxe (with bath tub) , two hours. (supposedly clean and modern). Note : This might have changed its name to NanaPlaza ST Hotel (?)

Left side :

Hollywood .2. Go-Go : Following on past Taboo and continuing the swoop left , around and ‘out’, you first come across Hollywood.2.. Big area/go-go. (The Ground Floor one is called Hollywood Rock , I hope , unless they have changed that to Hollywood ............. ? ).

Hollywood Carousel : which has girls boxing etc. anything goes, for entertainment. Only about a total of 2/3 Go-Go's this left side. Some have 'shower shows' etc , depends on authorities 'mood' at the time of your visit.

Apparently there is a ST 'Hotel' on this left side too. Dont know , never seen it. Only seen and checked the one on right side : )

Katoeys. How to identify them :

The Thais being tolerant by nature, allow katoeys, to dance side by side with regular girls in some Go-Go Bars , so its very hard sometimes for the untrained eye to pick them, when bunched in with regular girls. Notorious for this is Kings Castle.3. and Kings Corner in Patpong, Casanova at NEP (100% katoeys) , Super Pussy at Pattaya , New Duck a go go at Soi Cowboy and at entrance and end (Cabaret) of Soi Katoey in Patong (Phuket). Katoeys also do the beat at regular Disco's , on occasions.

Reference to 'nudity' and 'shows' below , may be affected by the Thai government making a concerted effort to soften the sex image of Thailand , viz banning sex shows and nudity of any kind.

History - There are different versions as to how the place came to be known as 'Cowboy'. Here is the one I like : )

An African American by the name of Edwards was one of the first , if not the first to open a bar in this area , an off shoot of Vietnam R & R I suspect , cause Soi Cowboy was there , up and running in 1978 when I first visited Bangkok/Thailand. His nickname was 'Cowboy' cause he wore cowboy gear and actually rode a horse in and out from that street. The popularity of his bar , attracted other punters (bar owners) to the Soi which people then called 'Cowboy'.

Where is this man today , he deserves a drink , for services rendered. Auto' entrance to WH for that gent !

Location - No.4 on the map below. It's South- East of Soi.4 and the NEP Go-Go's. More East than Sth. (EE-S) . As you can see from the map , Soi Cowboy runs between Soi.23 and Soi 21.

No.1 on the above Map is the NEP Go-Go complex. No.4 is the Soi Cowboy Go-Go's.

It's a fairly long walk from the corner of Soi.4 and Sukhumvit Rd. Possibly 20/25 mins walk.Bt 40/50 taxi ride from the same area. Alternatively catch a Skytrain at No. 2 (Nana E3 Station) to No.3. (Asok Station). Exit train station on East side. That is the odd numbers side of Sukhumvit Rd. Still heading in the same direction that the train was , walk across the big intersection of Soi 21 and Sukhumvit Rd and then turn into the first Soi on your left , Soi.23. Note : When you exit/enter east side of Asoke Train Station beware of pickpocket Katoeys operating in this area.

See next Map below. Walk down Soi.23. You will find The old Dutch Restaurant on the first corner on your left No.2 below. When you walk around that corner (to your left) your in Soi Cowboy. That will be obvious , as there are girls standing outside the various Bars watching that corner of the Soi , to see if a 'meal ticket' is heading their way : )

Not the ‘walk of shame’ but the walk of the game. Lots of girls standing outside, welcoming you with their big smiles , especially early in the night when their 'dancing' duties have not yet kicked in fully. The area slowly kicks off around 8pm . Suggest call 9pm . Wall to wall Go-Go’s with an odd Beer Bar here and there. At the last count, there were four (4) Beer Bars in amongst the Go-Go's.

General Overview - Soi Cowboy continues to be popular. Rising prices at NEP and the likelihood of seeing total nudity (subject to Authorities endeavours) , possibly tips the scales in Cowboys favour. Unlike Patpong , where there are tourist vendors stalls everywhere , the Soi Cowboy strip is hidden away from the run of the mill tourists. You'll be in the company of elite whorists here , and not have to worry about the 'lowly' tourists/mums and dads : )

Update/Note - 'nudity' and 'shows' at Cowboy can be on or off , depending on whether the police are enforcing the governments on-going 'clean up' campaign. As at most recent review , mostly on , I am told.

Cowboy also has the advantage of being a little less commercial and more laid back than its sister Go-Go's , NEP and Patpong. Overall, you have most probably got better lookers at a place like NEP, but then again Long Gun, Tilac and Dollhouse can hold its own with most/any NEP Go-Go. Some of the other Go-Go's at Cowboy are not up to NEP/Patpong standards however. Some girls start here, serve their apprenticeship , then if successful , move on to potentially higher earnings at NEP or Patpong. So , you have got the possibility of 'fresher cookies' at Soi Cowboy : )

Be wary of katoeys (lady boys) patrolling up and down Soi Cowboy. The major player GoGo's however are katoey free. Smaller ones maybe not so.

Midnite Bar - No.3 on the map above. Walking down from Soi.23 end , it is about the fifth Bar on your right. Popular and the possibility of nude dancing. This Bars appeal was waned with the persistent police raids re nudity etc. Even so , worth checking out. UPDATE : October 2005 couldnt see any sign it was functional/open.

Dollhouse - No.4. on the map above. Coming from Soi 23 end it is about six down on right hand side. Established successful player in Pattaya and now with a branch in Soi Cowboy. Possibility of total nudity on the upstairs dance floor. Costs a little more than the others : YD 95Bt. BF500, 600 if ‘Staff’, incl’s 1 hr use of one of their 3 ST rooms. In the top three in respect of popularity. But they vary/wane in popularity , according to many variables : )

Afterskool - No.5 on the map. Coming from Soi.23 end it is about eight down on right hand side , before Tilac. Drinks can be cheap but you might consider the girls a little pushy. Pretty girls (subjective and subject to change) . Same pretty girls give you blow job for 500bt , but make sure its not a hand job for Baht 500. There could be a Baht 200 ST Room charge on top of the Baht 500 , if you want privacy, otherwise she might want to do it in the 'sin bin' (special 'Naughty Boy' corner of the Bar for this purpose). Check out the 'terms of engagement' beforehand : ).

Left hand side : Suzie Wong is another player. No.6 on the map. About nine down on left hand side. Can be full nude sometimes.

Right hand side : Tilac - No.7 on the map. Coming from Soi.23 end it is about twelve down on the right hand side. Opinions vary on this one. Has seen better days. Possibly worth checking out , just in case it is on the rise again.

Left hand side :

Long Gun - No.8 on the map. Coming from Soi.23 end it is about the third last Go-Go Bar on the left hand side. Possibly the most popular Bar in Soi Cowboy , year in year out. This place is not pushy. Some lookers , with good attitude, dancing in the semi nude/nude (hopefully so , when you call) and no Katoeys to worry about. On most occasions they also have 'Fashion/Strip Tease Shows' and group choreographed shows (subject to Authorities 'enforcements'). These shows have in the past created a lot of interest but with regular persistent government crackdowns they are not so special any more. However , a must visit if your in the Soi Cowboy area.

UPDATE : The governments 'clean up' campaign continues. You can not be guaranteed there will be nudity or 'shows' any more. It's a lucky dip , on and off like a tap. Depends on the mood of the boys in brown (police) at the time of your visit.

Anyway nudity and 'shows' a plenty if you bar fine one of the girls and take her back to your room : )

Less popular players at Soi Cowboy -

Rawhide......is also inclined towards nude dancing. Close to Long Gun, same side.
Our Place....Keep an eye on your bar bill/tab. Mature Ladies with the odd 'fresh' one.

Patpong is the area between Silom & Suriwong Sts. Some kilometres West of NEP & Soi Cowboy Go-Go Bars.

Transport to : Taxi from Soi.4. , 20/25 mins. If traffic heavy , it will take longer more.

Alternatively , catch the Sky Train to Sala Daeng S2 Station. BTS (Sky Train) Route Maps are available at any station. See "Go-Go Bars Patpong - Location" map above.

Presuming you are coming from Siam Central BTS Station and when you exit the train at Sala Daeng S2 , you are facing the direction the train was heading , you exit Sala Daeng Station on the right hand side (North - Nth West side) , exit .1. Being a Sky Train , you have to walk down to ground level. Immediately at the bottom of the steps turn left into Silom Rd ,ie, continue heading in same direction train was heading when you alighted it (West-South) , and work your way along the footpath through the maze of tourists and street vendors selling all and sundry . Patpong 1 entrance : If you count the little alleyways (Soi's) starting at the bottom of the steps , Patpong 1 Soi should be the fourth Soi up on your right hand side. You will see a big Archway over the Soi , with a "Beer Chang - Patpong" sign , that's - Patpong .1.

Note - the Sky Train stops functioning at 12 midnight.

Leaving Patpong , late at night : Walking back towards Sala Daeng Stn , there is Convent Road on the right hand side of Silom Road. Experienced practitioners catch their returning taxi there and NOT outside Patpong itself. The taxis parked outside Patpong do not use their meter , and charge Baht 1/200 to take you back to Soi.4 area. Convent Road is a good spot for regular metred non rip off taxis (provided you make sure they use their meter). I always try and avoid 'stand by' (parked) taxis regardless of the country I am in. They are generally lazy rip off artists , preying on the unsuspecting. Try and always catch a taxi that is passing by , not one that is on 'stand by'/parked.

Patpong is a very pushy area : "give me LD" ; "give me tip" ; "you take me" etc. Also , you will be lucky to get your change back voluntarily etc. Not my scene : )

No. of Bars - there are approx 27 Go-Go and 10 Beer Bars in Patpong

The area is crowded with stalls and gaping tourists. The girls at NEP are as good or better without this kind of ‘crush’. Even so , Patpong is a must stop , at least once. When your looking at Patpong your looking at the Mother of Bangkok Go-Go's , the one that gave birth to all the other Go-Go's. Fortunately her 'children' (NEP & Cowboy) are not so 'pushy' : )

Touts abound in this area. Note - do not go with them to some other spot , as it will result in a waste of time and pos. a rip off. Preferably , do not enter Bars in small alleyways , between Patpong 1 & 2 , or bars with no names posted outside. Always a possibility of a rip-off in such places.

History - Patpong as an entertainment area started after the second world war catering for the staff of the many airline companies which set up office in the area. The first Massage Parlour for foreigners (Japanese initially) in Bangkok was set up in Patpong in the 1950’s. Then in the late 60’s servicemen on r&r from Vietnam kick started the go go scene. In 1978 yours truly, arrived at Patpong with the Touts gently whispering in my ear - ‘girl pingpong’. Not so gentle nowadays and more than pingpong balls coming out of the girls fannies too. Note - Nowadays this 'lewd' form of entertainment has been curtailed and/or stopped by cruscading governments.

Generally the go go ‘s are on the ground floor and above some of them, rip-off sex shows (above go go’s ie same building ). More on the sex shows later. Not to be confused with upstairs bj bars. Katoeys are mixed with the regular dancers in some places. Go go’s that do not employ katoey dancers are clarified , although there will always be some confusion/debate regarding this as some katoeys are very hard to pick and thus a place you would swear has only regular girls, might also have one or two Katoeys. Not my kind of scene : )

Average Prices : Note - It is hard to keep track of the ever changing prices. Use the following as a rough guide only : YD 90 , however some now charge up to Bt110 for your drink (beer) , LD 100 , BF 500/600 , ST 1/1500 (more likely the latter), LT 2500/3000. Few girls will go LT , they make more money selling LD’s and doing ST’s. No doubt the elderly tourists, buying kitsch in the same streets wander in from time to time, see the lithe young bodies and offer ridiculous amounts of money for the young things and thus spoil it for regular practitioners like you and me. Places like NEP and Soi Cowboy do not have a heavy tourist traffic passing by their door like Patpong does. Bring adequate change with you as the cheeky sods are reluctant to give you change. Tip only someone worth tipping , not just because they ask for a tip. Remember - others will follow in your footsteps , dont make it any harder for them. Be firm but fair.

Patpong.1. & 2 is where it all happens. Patpong .1. is the most popular.

Note - keep an eye on your bills, those little bits of paper being popped in the cup in front of you and do not offer large notes for small bills/invoices , otherwise the bar girl might make a ‘mistake’ and give you change for a smaller note . Once the ‘mistake’ has been made it can not be undone cause she will lose ‘face’ and lose your money in the process : ) And keep in mind , unlikely (but still pos.) to have the same kind of trouble in the Kings Go Go’s recommended herein (depends if you have got 'newbie' written all over your face : ). Keep this piece of advice in mind wherever you are. Large notes $ are an invitation for an unpleasant and costly experience which will sour your night.

Patpong.1.

There is a Patpong .1. Street sign. A big archway hangs over the entrance. (See Map above).

"This is THE Go Go street" , with Kings Castle .1."Top Go Go in Thailand" (some will say) and Kings Castle .2. being the two most popular in Patpong. Note - Kings Castle .3. is 98% Katoey , of the 'non surgical' type and so too Kings Corner Go-Go (surgically enhanced types) . Queens Castle 2. is popular and has nice girls. There are also many other Go-Go Bars to choose from.

Specialist BJ Bar - Kangaroo Bar.("northern end") Upstairs. Coming from Silom and walking towards the end of Pat.1 its on the left hand side. Your Beer Bt80/100. BJ in a room Baht7/800 all up max. BJ at Bar cutouts possibly Baht5/600. Well known joint with a fairly good reputation. Opens early afternoon (2pm ?) and closes 1am (?). Girls are ok lookers. Used to be BJ's at the bar only , nowadays shy ones have the option of a private room.

Specialist BJ Bar - The Rose Bar . Same side as Kangaroo and close by. Not pretty girls but they can do the deed. Baht ....200 room 500 bj = 700.......ok classification. Pos. to get it all up for Bt600. Tell em "Kangaroo 600" : ) (Pantera Rosa, wherever it is , is a rip off joint. Didn't come across it on my reconnoitre).

Specialist BJ Bar - Star of Love. UPDATE : Believed to be closed (?).

Star of Light Bar - see Patpong.2. info for this unashamed and popular bj bar.

Restaurant Tip Top (Thai and Western) , located in middle of market (Soi.1). It's ok and is a break from the crammed market atmosphere and 'bedlem' that awaits you at Patpong. UPDATE : Not sure if its still there , write in if you find it.

Some of the following places might have changed name or gone out of biz altogether. Use as a guide only.

Patpong two has more Beer Bars. Less 'commercial' than Patpong .1. , if that is possible. Super Queen and Cleopatra’s are popular.

Lounges - Executive Lounge, Surawong street end of the the patpong .2. Arrive early , 7pm and check out other lounges/up market beer bars , before Go Go's , 8/9pm .

Crown Royal Lounge, also good.

Freelance Spot - "Kings Garden" , opens 7pm or earlier now , with 2am closing (used to close at sun-up). Go-Go girls used to come here after work , 3/4am and hang around till sun up hoping for a customer. With 2am closing that has all changed.

Short time Hotel - Pavilion Place, Surawong end.

Star of Light - It's gotta be the most talked about BJ Bar in Thailand. But do not expect beauty queens. The ones I saw sitting out front were anything but. But I was early. More attractive ones , whether its BJ , Massage , Freelancer whatever , quite often do not arrive early for 'work'. SOL seems to be the most popular BJ Bar in Bangkok and/or Thailand , but not convenient location for those staying in Soi3/4 area. Lolita's is convenient for those guys , but "Star of Light" seems to be the star. Best vacuum service around , they say.

S of L Location : Presuming you take the Sky Train ... and exit Sala Daeng Stn , head in a Nth Easterly direction (where the crowds are) 200 plus metres along the Silom Road footpath where you will come across a lane/soi on your right with a large Archway and the giant words : "Beer Chang ... Patpong". Enter that lane/soi , staying on the right hand side all the time , passing many stalls which are to your left , bars on your right past Kings Castle .2 GoGo Bar and others to the corner with the "Muz Cafe" on it (same right hand side of Soi). Turn right into that pathway/lane and only 20/30mtrs along , you'll come to a T.intersection of pathways/lanes. At this 'T' and on the left hand corner of the 'T' is the "Roma Cafe". Almost directly in front of you and across the Soi/lane (running left and right is called Patpong.2) is a small open air Bar. To the left of that bar and on a footpath back a little from the laneway (name : Patpong.2) is the "Star of Light" bj bar.

So cross over to that Bar swivel around left , walk down the narrow footpath elevated and just back from Soi (Patpong.2) itself and you will see Star of Light sign a few short metres (4/5mtrs) from that Bar. Usually there are plastic chairs out front. Nothing special about the look of the place. Thats why you can pass it without knowing. Take care with these instructions cause most folks have trouble in finding Star of Light. Main reason ... its back away from the Soi (Patpong.2) elevated , and partially covered from view. If you go to that Bar I mentioned you'll see S of L , if you look hard enough. It's there , close by (4/5mtrs).

The BJ Ladies are usually sitting outside on plastic chairs encouraging passers by to enter. When I tracked down S of L , I thought they looked pretty old and terrible , but all this kind of stuff is subjective , so check it out for yourself. I was early , attractive ones do not start early. I did not go inside (too shy : ) but I believe the following will greet you : Your Beer Bt80/100. BJ in public/bar area and/or in partitioned area at end of bar , Baht700. Ladies take is around Bt450 so tip if satisfied. To take Lady away from bar for ST there is Bar Fine of Bt400 , then Bt3/500 to nearby ST Hotel (Lady knows). These takeout prices most prob have gone up in recent times. Then pay Lady (negotiable). I rarely if ever hear a bad word about Star of Light. They must be doing something right : )

Lady said open 10am till late x 7 days a week. Suggest arrive 11am to be sure its open when you call. One could presume that the best Ladies do not front up until later on. Presumably the ones who are not earning much money = not popular , front early and the big earners and most attractive vacuum cleaners arrive later.

Other Info :

Upstairs Sex Shows (eg : Ping Pong) - Not recommended. Once you step inside you will not leave without being presented with a big rip-off bill which you have to pay as 'heavies' (goons) man the exit doors. Bills can run into the thousands of Baht , even though you may have had only one drink.

Tourist Police : Walk straight up Silom Road past the Sala Daeng Station until you come to the corner of Ratchadamri and Rama 1V Roads by Lumphini Park. Look to your right you will see the Police Station in Rama 1V Rd. Head to them if you fall prey to a Patpong scam. If police are not showing much enthusiasm to your plight (one of many they hear about) you might have to offer them a share of the booty (incentive) to get your money back from scam artists.

Taxis - Walk away from the area otherwise the ones parked at patpong will treat you like a tourist mug and ask for Baht 1/200 minimum (no meter) when the real fare is in the vicinity of Baht 60 to Soi 4 area. More detailed info on this under 'Transport to' , above. (just below the Soi 1/2 map).

Skytrain - stops at 12 midnight , as indicated above also.

Patpong is one of the three Go-Go areas that a newbie should check out. Although if I was you , I'd leave Patpong till last when you have some experience at the 'softer options' (Soi Cowboy / Nep ) Patpong is better suited for experienced punters. Soi Cowboy and NEP are superior (personal opinion). Even so , I gave up on GoGo's and their girls a long time ago , much preferring Freelancers : )
